Federal Conservatives Now Leading in Nova Scotia

Introduction

MQO Research spoke with 300 residents of Nova Scotia to gauge the political temperature in the province for the Winter edition of our quarterly political poll: Atlantic Matters.

Federal Politics

According to the latest polling numbers, the federal Conservatives have taken the lead in NS. Among decided and leaning voters:

  • Support for the Liberal Party dropped 11 percentage points to 33%.
  • Conservative support increased 8 percentage points to 39%.
  • NDP support edged up 3 percentage points to 16%.
  • Support for the Green Party was relatively unchanged at 10%.

“Regionally, the Liberals have lost their advantage in HRM and are now trailing the Conservatives across the rest of the province,” said Carolyn O’Keefe, President at MQO.

The Atlantic Matters poll was conducted by telephone from February 27th to March 3rd, 2020 and included 300 randomly selected eligible voters from across the province. The margin of error for the total sample is ± 5.6 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
